There are several URL naming conventions we summarise them below:
Low Value Practice URLs
- Doctors Name - using a doctors name eg: drsmith.com.au, this helps Google if you name is very common but as a primary practice domain it is a wasted opportunity as optimising a website for a doctors name should be achievable,
- Practice Name - while it helps Google know who you are even basic website SEO should enable you to rank for a search looking for your practice name
- Practice Abbreviation - a short form or abbreviated practice name eg: nebc.com.au diminished most search engine optimisation benefits
High Value Practice URLs
A high value URL ticks all the boxes above. It is short, says what you do and where you are located. As it mirrors who, what and where you are, it sends clear signals to Google.
Some examples are:

Other high value domains are simply condition or procedure specific, such as:

Secondary Practice Domains
A secondary domain can redirect to a primary domain and can perform special functions
- Lock out other practices registering them,
- Be a doctor or practice name URL which may not optimise well, or
- An abbreviated domain for special functions like practice email extensions because they are easier to type or spell.

These issues can cause significant material impact a practice's health online. Delays in resolving a domain conflict can cause a loss of revenue.

- No Domain Access - A domain is registered by an ex-practice employee or doctor and they are no longer contactable
- Domain Transfer Barriers - Prior web dev or tech provider has registered the domain in their name (ABN) and will not transfer the domain.

We offer simple straight forward DNS Management for peace of mind. We register all domains using the clients ABN. We do not own the domain. This allows Technical Access by us and Domain Ownership by the client.
Types of DNS Records
Your domain management is not only about your website, it can be used for many other important technical functions.
DNS records are essentially instructions created by and stored on DNS servers in what is called a Zone File. These records provide important and relevant details about domains and hostnames. It might be helpful to think of them as business listings or directories. These “listings” help DNS servers direct queries to where they need to go. Types of DNS Records include
- A Record (address) - Most commonly used to map a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to an IPv4 address and acts as a translator by converting domain names to IP addresses.
- CNAME Record (Canonical Name) - An alias that points to another domain or subdomain, but never an IP address. Alias record mapping FQDN to FQDN, multiple hosts to a single location. This record is also good for when you want to change an IP address over time as it allows you to make changes without affecting user bookmarks,
- NS Record (name server) - Specifies which name servers are authoritative for a domain or subdomains (these records should not be pointed to a CNAME).
- MX Record (Mail eXchange) - Uses mail servers to map where to deliver email for a domain (should point to a mail server name and not to an IP address).
- TXT (text) Record - Allows administrators to add limited human and machine-readable notes and can be used for things such as email validation, site, and ownership verification, framework policies, etc., and doesn’t require specific formatting.
- AAAA Record (quad A) - Similar to A Records but maps to an IPv6 address (smartphones prefer IPv6, if available).
- ANAME Record - This record type allows you to point the root of your domain to a hostname or FQDN
- SOA Record (Start of Authority) - Stores information about domains and is used to direct how a DNS zone propagates to secondary name servers.
- SRV Record (service) - Allows services such as instant messaging or VoIP to be directed to a separate host and port location.
- PTR Record (pointer) - A reverse of A and AAAA records, which maps IP addresses to domain names. These records require domain authority and can’t exist in the same zone as other DNS record types (put in reverse zones).
- SPF Record (sender policy framework) - Helps prevent email spoofing and limits spammers.

New Domain Process
We will register the domain with your ABN, this means you own the domain. The domain registration process involves the following steps:

Control Panel Access
While Domain Access is never unreasonably withheld, Quantum Digital reserves the right to withhold domain control panel access where accounts remain unpaid or are in dispute.

Shared Domain Access
Quantum Digital does not offer shared DNS Control Panel Access. If domain edits result in performance problems extra support fees will be required.

Transfer of Domain
Domain Registrars can require 14 days to execute Domain Transfers or Domain Account Splits as a result Quantum Digital also requires the same Notice.
Domains not in our account are not our responsibility and all future domain support obligations by Quantum Digital are terminated.
After a client leaves our subscription service the responsibility of transferring (splitting) the domain from Quantum Digital's account is with the client.
Support associated with non-transferred domains will attract a fee of $110.
